backpackers berlin vs. germany and europe



is berlin a backpackers paradise ?

sure there is no beach and no snowy hills, but there's the fun in town..
and berlin has been the fastest changing city in europe over the past 10 years! - and it keeps on

rockin' and rolling..



formerly know as the city with the wall berlin was a strange place and just interesting because of this huge beton-thing in the middle,
keeping the world from changing but nothing more -

after the wall was gone it became the door to eastern europe and the melting pot of cultures, because everybody wanted to be a part
of the wild time in berlin, everybody wanted to

become a 'Berliner'

and Berlin embraced all kinds of influence in order to find it's
place in europe and to regain the cultural strength a metropolis should have and Berlin once had.

Every little hidden treasure, buried by the years between the wall was built and torn down was about to be found and every little schoolkid's
dream in finding secrets and unknown places became true.

there was room for any idea, any uncommon and sometimes new directions regarding arts, music, life style was welcome and in no time,
berlin had it all ..

The word was spread and backpackers could not get enough of the cheap, fun-city. Some just stayed for a while, somke came back to
stay and then the first

hostels opened..

starting with 40, or 60 beds it was the mere idea of sleeping, just copying what the new freedom in travelling had told us.

Berlin became the new destination behind London, Paris, Rome, Amsterdam and on the way to Prague.


Once an insider tip it then was the place to see 'where the wall was' and to listen to some techno, diving into new yet not commercial
nightlife, meeting these Berliners, that somehow managed to crash a whole political system, and defeat military forces and a Stasi-System without
war or revolution, just with meeting and demonstrating, shouting 'we are the poeple'. (And of course a 'little' political drama behind the scenes).

And here we are now - the big mystery is gone - as the wall. And we are still on the move. What everybody espected just straight away in the
90ties took some more time..
Poland will be a part of the European Union, Czech-Republic is more european than ever, Russia and the Baltic Countries are just a few hours away.
and whenever the poeple from eastern europe want to go west and backpackers from all over the world want to explore the new insider tips,

where do they meet

- yes - in Berlin....

and that's what Berlins gonna be -
